Video: Here Comes The Sun

Video: Here Comes The Sun Here is the video for Here Comes The Sun, taken from a series of videos I shot at Iscoyd Park in August.  I've been playing this one for a while now and it's always a popular choice for use in the wedding ceremony.  It is usually chosen as an exit song, as it's got an upbeat and joyful feeling without being too fast.  Unfortunately I've forgotten who the arranger is!  But it's not one of my own so I'll endeavour to dig the book out and give credit once I've found out who arranged it. Video: Wonderful Tonight

Video: Wonderful Tonight I recently recorded several videos at Iscoyd Park, a spectacular countryside venue on the Welsh/Shropshire border.  I decided to focus on recording examples from my Pop and Rock repertoire.  Out of all of my sets, (Classical, Spanish, Jazz + Pop/Rock).  This set remains my most regularly requested for weddings.  I think the fact that it contains songs most people will know make it more appealing.  Added to that, the stripped back arrangements with no vocals, played on an instrument as beautiful as the classical guitar make it perfect for weddings. Wonderful Tonight The first [...]

Repertoire: Spanish Set

Next up in the series is my Spanish set. This is a collection of Spanish music spanning a number of centuries. It incorporates pieces of music from the classical period in Spain to the Flamenco style through to Catalan folk songs. Spanish music is full of passion and ranges from the heart breakingly beautiful to fiery and ferocious. There are some significant differences between the different styles of Spanish music. Pieces from the Spanish classical period are not too dissimilar to the pieces from my regular classical setlist. The key difference is that the pieces in my Spanish [...]

Repertoire: Jazz Set

Next up in the series is my Jazz set. If you’re an avid fan of jazz guitar then the first thing to mention is that my jazz set is a little bit different to what you might expect. All songs are played on a classical guitar and not an archtop, so the tone of the instrument is very different. The majority of songs in my jazz guitar set are prearranged, meaning there is very little improvisation when I play live. The arrangements in my jazz guitar set are voiced nicely for the classical guitar; the melody being played mostly on [...]

VIDEO: More Than Words

I recently recorded a few samples for my new repertoire blog series (starting with pop and rock songs) and thought I'd share a full version of one of the songs too.  I chose to record More Than Words as it's a popular choice for the wedding ceremony.  It's quite flexible and works beautifully for the processional or the signing of the register.  I usually recommend this one to couples who are struggling for ideas, along with the other classic wedding ceremony options.  Hope you enjoy the video, don't forget to comment if you like it! I hope to [...]

Repertoire: Pop and Rock Covers Set

Welcome to the first in a series of blog posts which will be shining the spotlight on the songs in my repertoire. I often get asked questions about whether my music is suitable for events such as wedding ceremonies or birthday parties.  I hope that this series of blog posts will help to answer some of those questions more substantially than I can in an email or over the phone. First up in the series is my Pop and Rock Covers Set.   My pop and rock covers set is a collection of songs from the 1960’s right thought to the [...]
