Repertoire: Jazz Set

Next up in the series is my Jazz set. If you’re an avid fan of jazz guitar then the first thing to mention is that my jazz set is a little bit different to what you might expect. All songs are played on a classical guitar and not an archtop, so the tone of the instrument is very different. The majority of songs in my jazz guitar set are prearranged, meaning there is very little improvisation when I play live. The arrangements in my jazz guitar set are voiced nicely for the classical guitar; the melody being played mostly on [...]

VIDEO: More Than Words

I recently recorded a few samples for my new repertoire blog series (starting with pop and rock songs) and thought I'd share a full version of one of the songs too.  I chose to record More Than Words as it's a popular choice for the wedding ceremony.  It's quite flexible and works beautifully for the processional or the signing of the register.  I usually recommend this one to couples who are struggling for ideas, along with the other classic wedding ceremony options.  Hope you enjoy the video, don't forget to comment if you like it! I hope to [...]

Repertoire: Pop and Rock Covers Set

Welcome to the first in a series of blog posts which will be shining the spotlight on the songs in my repertoire. I often get asked questions about whether my music is suitable for events such as wedding ceremonies or birthday parties.  I hope that this series of blog posts will help to answer some of those questions more substantially than I can in an email or over the phone. First up in the series is my Pop and Rock Covers Set.   My pop and rock covers set is a collection of songs from the 1960’s right thought to the [...]

Real Wedding Blog Posts

Apologies for not keeping up with my blog posts of real weddings at which I’ve played.  Quite simply, there are not enough hours in the day to write up every single one!  I’ve had a great time playing at various weddings over the past few months, despite the absence of real wedding blog posts.  This is certainly not a reflection on the weddings I’ve had the honour of playing at.  I’d just like to extend my thanks to those who booked me to play at the following venues: Ettington Park Hotel, Warwickshire South Farm, Cambridgeshire Malmaison Hotel, Oxfordshire Barnsdale Hall [...]

VIDEO: Bridal Chorus/Here Comes The Bride

I had a bit of fun shooting some clips for a new promo video and I thought I'd post up a sneak preview.  This is a video of my arrangement of the Bridal Chorus (also known as 'Here Comes The Bride') by Richard Wagner.  This piece of music is on my list of most popular wedding ceremony songs. I hope you enjoyed the video.  I'll be posting up a new promo video at some point in the next few days so please check back in regularly!  In the meantime, you can get an instant online quote for your [...]

Top 5 Best Wedding Ceremony Songs: Processional

Top 5 Best Wedding Ceremony Songs: Processional I’ve been perusing the forums on many wedding themed websites and blogs recently in a bid to keep up to date with what brides are looking for with regards to music for the wedding ceremony.  I get booked to play guitar at the wedding ceremony on lots of occasions so it’s important to keep my repertoire current.  However instead of finding a deluge of answers, I uncovered many more questions regarding music for the wedding ceremony.  One of the questions which seems to keep popping up is “Which songs should I choose for the [...]

The Drinks Reception Gig

Playing guitar at a drinks reception might seem like one of the easier parts of my job, however it still serves up an array of musical challenges for which you need to be prepared to deal with.  On the face of it, performing at a drinks reception means setting up an hour before your set, running a quick sound check, followed by 2-3 performances of 45 mins each.  As far as gigs go, it sounds about as straight forward as it can be.  Indeed, when I first began playing guitar at weddings and events, I didn’t pay it much thought.  [...]

Peckforton Castle | Cheshire

I’ve been looking forward to playing at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire ever since I took the booking way back in August last year.  The venue is simply stunning!  To deepen my anticipation I treated myself to a new DSLR camera for my birthday last week, which I’ve been dying to try out somewhere picturesque.  The British weather is always something of a gamble; snow in April, heat waves in December.  I had my fingers crossed that today would at least be dry and relatively clear so that I could road test my new camera.  Low and behold, by some miracle the [...]

Wentbridge House Hotel | Yorkshire

The majority of wedding gigs go off without a hitch.  Today was not one of them.  So what possible cataclysmic turn of events occurred today which caused me such consternation? I broke a nail. For classical guitarists, the shape and condition of the nails on the right hand play a crucial part in the production of good tone.  Classical guitarists who have been playing for any length of time will have tried and tested countless different nail shapes in a bid to establish their exact preference.  Each guitarist has their own particular playing style, much in the same way we [...]
